Mike Smith, the most successful jockey in Breeders' Cup history, secured his 26th success at the prestigious meeting when guiding Caledonia Road to victory in the 14 Hands Winery Breeders' Cup Juvenile Fillies at Del Mar.
With favourite Moonshine Memories setting a searing gallop up front, Smith was happy to bide his time on Ralph Nicks' filly, sitting in midfield before angling wide on the home turn.
Alluring Star took up the running in the home straight, but Smith had that move covered and Caledonia Road stormed up the home straight to score.
Smith, who was riding the winner for the first time, said: "What a filly, she just ran dynamite.
"Me and Ralph grew up together, it's the first time I've ridden for him. We just said it would be great if we could do this together."
An emotional Nicks, celebrating his first Breeders' Cup win as a trainer, added: "It's just amazing.
"She has been so straightforward all year, and did nothing but get better as the fall came along."
