Grade 1 form from California, New York and Kentucky is represented here. The local stakes prep for this took place at Santa Anita. The winning time was much slower than the males division but the race looks good enough to make the principals contenders. MOONSHINE MEMORIES (7) maintained her unbeaten record and made it back to back victories in Grade 1s. She outfinished the pacesetting Alluring Star (9) by almost three lengths with Piedi Bianchi (8) a neck back in third. The runner up could be the controlling speed here and a bit stronger second time over a route distance.
Heavenly Love (1) broke her maiden second time out and on turf. She ran even better last month on dirt drawing off to win a Grade 1 at Keeneland. That day she was able to sit close to easy fractions. She’s likely to have to reel the pacesetters in from much further back here. That’s probably the case with Princess Warrior (3) who was a five and a half length runner up to her in Kentucky. She was made favourite for that event on the back of a fine debut victory at Churchill. Her rider was forced to go wide despite being drawn on the rail and is probably much better than that result suggests.
Separationofpowers (13) won The Grade 1 Frizette at Belmont decisively from Caledonia Road (12) who was well clear of Maya Malibu (10). The time before, she’d finished well behind the third when used up in a speed duel. She and Caledonia Road (12) draw poorly and could be hung wide. Separationofpowers may have to be used early and may duel with Alluring Star.
Blonde Bomber (5) slammed Florida-breds in a stake last time. She doesn’t look as good as Awesome Feather who won this for the same trainer in 2010. Gio Game (4) seems to have more upside. She tried a today’s trip on the dirt for the first time and broke her maiden by nine lengths.
